How It Works: Ion Exchange Process

• Mineral Tank:
  Filled with negatively charged resin beads that attract positively charged calcium and magnesium ions.

• Brine Tank:
  Stores a salt solution that recharges the resin by flushing out trapped hardness minerals.

• Regeneration Cycle:

  1. Backwash – flushes out dirt and sediment

Softener Sizing Guide

To properly size your softener, calculate your daily grain removal needs using this formula:

People x 75 gallons x (Hardness + Iron x 4) = Grains/day

Example:
4 people × 75 gallons × (10 grains + (2 ppm iron × 4)) = 5,400 grains/day
A 32,000-grain unit with a 26,000-grain usable capacity would regenerate every 5 days in this case.

General Guidelines:

• Aim for regeneration every 5–10 days under normal iron levels

• For high iron (5+ mg/L) or manganese (1+ mg/L), more frequent regeneration (every 3–5 days) is recommended
